Algae is tan to medium golden brown, and is usually darker near base. It ranges from 15 to 25 cm tall, and has a slight pronounced tendency to pinnate branching. Branches are 1 to 1.5 cm wide with broadly rounded apices and usually have numerous minute marginal teeth. Medulla and cortex monostromatic except near holdfast were cortex is composed of 3 to 4 cell layers. D. binghamiaedoes not have a distinct midrib as D.undulatadoes. Antheridial sori are oval, and oogonial sori are round.
