Species Description
The Bluebanded Goby is bright red with 4-9 iridescent blue bars which are fewer and thicker than those of Lythrypnus zebra ( LYZE). Top of head is almost completely blue. LYDA has a taller first dorsal fin, and is generally more common than LYZE. Adults grow to 6.4 cm.
Species Habitat
Territorial, often protect rocky outcroppings until threatened when they will retreat to a crevice, such as hiding in an urchin's spines.
Species Range
Intertidal to 250 ft; Morro Bay, California to Central Baja California, Mexico.
