Species Description
An easily distinguishable brown or green seastar with tapered orange, blue or purple spines having red tips.
Species Habitat
Surrounding each spine are pedicellariae that are used to capture prey. These can capture prey as large as the seastar itself.
Species Range
Low intertidal zone to 40 m subtidally; Santa Barbara, California, to Gulf of California, Mexico.
