Perennial with diffusely branching stems; 4 to 20 inches tall. Succulent, smooth, linear to spatula-like leaves. Small, white flowers with yellow spots in throat, purpling with age and growing on an uncoiling inflorescence; blooms March-October.

Marshes, streams beds, and alkaline flats.

Native to California, confined to North America.
