Species Description
Length to 9 in. but rarely over 7 in. Back metallic blue to green, silver below. Body roundish and scales easily rubbed off. By far the most abundant anchovy in California. Dorsal 14-19 rays; Anal 18-26 rays; Pectoral 13-20 rays; midlateral scales about 41-50.

Depth 0-310m. Subtropical.
Species Range
Cape San Lucas, Baja California, to Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia.
