Species Description
Plants made up of clumps of large, crisp blades of varying sizes. Blades grow over 1 m tall and 30 cm wide. Younger blades iridescent purple, older blades bluish rose when subtidal,and yellowish pink in intertidal. Surfaces of blades covered with coarse papillae up to 2 cm long bearing reproductive structures.
Species Habitat
Common, found growing on rocks in areas of high surge. Formerly known as Gigartina corymbifera.
Species Range
Low intertidal and subtidally to 30 m; Washington to Bahia San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico.
