Generally grey with mottled red or red-brown blotches or color variable. Typically 5 arms, but may range between 1 to 9. Body rarely symmetrical. Arm radius to 9 cm.

Found on rocky substrate.

Low intertidal to 72m; Southern California to Columbia and Galapagos Islands.
