Species Description
The Giant Black Sea Bass is known for its large size and large black spots covering gray, black, or brown body. Larger fish will be uniformly colored gray or darker. First dorsal fin has low profile. Large mouth and heavy-set body. Young reddish with black or white blotches. Size to 226 cm and over 500 lbs.
Species Habitat
Found around rocky areas and in kelp forests. Lives to at least 70 years.
Species Range
Northern California to Southern Baja California, Mexico and the Gulf of California.
